The Beaver was designed and manufactured by de Havilland Aircraft of Canada after extensive market research to determine the needs of bush pilots and operators. It first flew in 1947.
Its rugged, simple, all-metal construction and STOL performance made it ideal as a utility transport for bush-flying, military operations and agricultural work from polar to tropical climates.
